MY YEAR OF WRITING THESE COLUMNS

May 24, 1999 was a personal milestone for me. That marked the day when the Weekly Column page had continued for one year.

Looking back it was a fun year.

Throughout the year, I have compiled 48 articles, articles that my father calls "an investment for the future."

This entire page was started when my father challenged me to write an article on current news stories. I wrote two or three and that soon developed into a quest to try to write an article each week. The column soon changed topic from news to just miscellaneous topics that interested me and that I wanted to share my opinion on. From what would I do if Aliens Invaded (Save the World…) to the ghastly school shootings in the past year (Will We Ever Learn, Terror at the Schools, and Are School Rules Excessive) my writings have traversed a long field of topics.

The growth of this page really startled me, for the rapid rate at which it grew was something I did not expect. I thought this was just one of these "things" that my father asks me to do from time to time in order to "stimulate" my brain. None of the other ideas continued for nearly as long, they just kid of fade away after a while.

How? That is up to you to decide. For to a mother, or in this case father, its child is always the best and above the rest. Personally, I feel that the quality of my writing has improved, as it should, over the past year. You can judge for yourself. Email me by clicking on the "What do you think about this?" on the bottom of the page and tell me what you think of my writing style.

My favorite article was "Save the World", probably because it was imaginary. My dad likes me to write along more serious lines, but I prefer to write on more "creative" topics. After all, I hope to write poetry part-time when I grow up. Just the topic of this essay makes me proud. I have never tried to write on a topic so far, as we say, "out there." The topic is outrageous yet, although very slightly, plausible.

Thank you for reading my weekly columns. Please do not hesitate in blasting these columns for flaws and certainly do not hesitate in complimenting J my writing. As I mentioned before since this is an investment, any improvements I will make will aid me in the future.

Thanks again for being faithful and reading these columns.

PS: I will not be writing anymore for about the next 2-3 months, as I
have to go to vacation in India. I will resume the Weekly Column after my return from India
.
