Save the World…

As long as history can trace back civilizations, there have been signs of wonder. Wonder of what lay beyond the reaches of their "world." We still wonder about the very same questions that our ancestors wondered about. Aided by fancy new technology, our goal remains the same, to actually see if any life lies beyond.

Several scientists say that the more advanced civilizations get the more peaceful they are. This, though, cannot be branded as true. Our own civilization itself contradicts that remark. The human race has progressed, in our own standards, rapidly, yet we are still as hostile as we were 10,000 years ago. Thus, if we do encounter life from "the beyond," we must be prepared for a possibly hostile species.

Once invaded, our society, being panicky as it is, will succumb to the will of the invaders instantly in hope to save their lives. My first action, if I were in power to do so, would be to rally an army of truly brave people against the attackers. These true adventurers would act as role models. This would trigger a chain reaction as humans have very few people that try original things. Only a very small percent of our population have been known for innovation, but there have been several that have followed in these few footsteps. So in hope of a similar reaction this would be the first step I would take.

In battle, I would hope that competitiveness would be encouraged. It is a well-known scientific fact that all animals compete for natural resources, but humans compete for almost everything else. I would initiate an honor program, in hope of stimulating this strong feeling. The desire to get the most honors, I would hope, will intensify the energy with which they face the enemy. I would also hope that this action would attract more people to fight because this - receiving medals - would trigger their sense of adding to their rapport.

Motivational speaking would obviously be required to keep the group "going" after tough days. I would like to employ the mentally stronger people to doing this. I know, from my own experiences, that there are several people that would rather read a good book than get involved in any physically strenuous activity. It is these people that would weaken the morale of the group because of their reaction and behavior toward the invading race. Instead, I would like to use these men to strengthen the morale of these troops. Another point, which I probably must mention, is that upon my first step (rallying an army) there would most likely be more "gangster like" youths that would sign up. This extremely enthusiastic group would be sure to turn away the mentally stronger. Therefore, the few smart people that do join would have to be strong enough physically to at least stand up to the first army. Based upon that conclusion I would have a double advantage. Any inspirational words coming from one of the people that have weathered the storm, would effect the audience profoundly more than words coming from a person that not even dared to step out.

Another step that would be taken would be to prevent panic among the few that dared stand up to the enemy. This problem would be particularly difficult to get around, but penalties might do the trick. Although penalties are perhaps the best way to get around this, we would need to have a fixed definition of "Panic," to first enforce penalties. There would need to be a proper hearing before actual penalties could take place. This process should be made as complicated as possible in hopes of distracting a person’s will of going through it. This – making the system complicated – may sound like a poor idea, as there would be several snags while running through it. This, though, is exactly what I am trying to encourage. The more difficulty the defendant has understanding the procedure, the less he can question the ruling. As I mentioned in the above paragraph, most of the people would be "gangster like," and this procedure should tax their brains. There would also be "levels" of panic, and depending upon the "level", more points would be subtracted. If a false case is brought up, however, the "prosecutor" will be given a light punishment. This, in turn, would minimize false complaints springing for personal grudges.

Food and water would pose a constant problem, as our invaders would probably know of our dependency of water and guard most major sources of water. At base camp, we could dig until we hit some stagnant water, but we would need more to survive. There will have to be a secondary river near our camp. We must be careful about this step because if we prove to be too close to the river, we will be easily discovered. Our camp, for this reason, must be on rugged terrain, in hopes that the unfamiliar terrain will slow our invaders. We could hunt the natural wildlife or send monthly raids of grocery stores, consisting of about fifty armed people at the least.

Above I have tried to include all the possible concerns one might face in case of an invasion. I have tried to unite everyone and give everyone a purpose in our quest, if we were to be invaded.
