When Professor McHenry announced his retirement this year, the chair of Comparative Literature Department asked Jerry to help interview candidates for his position. Although the department received resumes from a number of well-qualified, they were particularly impressed with eight applicants (including Theo), each of whom had received a Ph.D. in a different year from a different university. Each candidate specializes in the literature of a different language, and, according to the resumes, each had published a different number of scholarly articles. The university arranged to interview the eight one after another, and it turned out that the order in which they interviewed them corresponded to the relative number of articles each had published - i.e. they interviewed the one who had published a fewer articles first, and the one who published the most articles last. From the information provided, determine the year (from 1989 to 1996) in which each candidate earned his or her Ph.D., the university that awarded the degree, the genre of literature in which each specializes and the number of articles each had published at the time of the interview.
1. The eight professors are the graduates of Auburn, Rice and Fisk Universities, the ones who earned their doctorates in 1989 and 1990, the French specialist, and the ones interviewed seventh and eigth.
2. The graduates of Cornell, Oglethorpe, and Brown Universities are the ones who earned a Ph.D. in 1990, the Indian specialist, and the seventh interviewee, in some order. The three candidates who had published the fewest articles are the Lincoln University graduate, the one who earneda doctorate in 1989, and the Chinese specialist, in some order.
3. They interviewed Janet at some point before a candidate who had published at least 2 fewer articles than another. Riva received her Ph.D. at some point before the candidate who had published exactly 3 articles. They interviewed the Brown graduate immediately before the author of exactly 11 articles.
4. Waldo had published exactly 2 more articles than the Chinese specialist. Lea (who didn't earn her degree from Stanford) had published exactly 1 more article than Godfrey. The Stanford graduate and the Spanish specialists are the one who earned a degree in 1994 and the one they interviewed fourth, in some order.
5. The fifth and sixth interviewees are the one who earned a Ph.D. in 1992 and the Norwegian specialist, in some order. Yul is not the Polish specialist (who didn't attend Auburn).
6. Anna had published either exactly 1 article or exactly 1 article fewer than Yul. The Oglethorpe graduate earned a Ph.D. at some point before the author of exactly 7 articles and at some point after the Norwegian specialist. The Russian specialist received a Ph.D. in 1995.
7. Janet earned her degree the year before the Fisk graduate and the year after either the Chinese or Japanese specialist. The Rice graduate earned his or her Ph.D. either the year before or the year after the Norwegian specialist. The Fisk graduate is neither the Japanese nor the Polish specialist.
