Why Did we Ban "Evolution"?

Evolution teaches that men and other forms of life evolved billions of years ago from a simple species while creation holds that a divine being created humans and other species 10,000 years ago. Creationists also believe that the Bible is the final and ultimate authority on how man first came into being. Both theories are almost in total contradiction of one another, which explains the debates and arguments that have been surrounding the subject.

Both sides are, and have been for quite some time, locked in a fierce battle. Ever since Kansas decided that they were going to delete the word "evolution" from almost all of their science documents other states have followed suit. Kentucky, for example, instead of deleting the word "evolution has changed it to "change over time." Alabama and Nebraska have also allowed for theories that challenge evolution.

I find that that banishing evolution from curriculums is banning the use of logic from the schools. I have always been doubtful as to whether or not God really exists, and have found myself trusting the laws of science than supreme being(s). Never have I doubted the basic laws of science. I follow the logic that science has some backing to it, some organization, logic and sense that, personally makes it much more believable to me than the theory that God created man. I have always been the person that follows any law of logic that might exist. Following logic has always ensured me that any action I take is well-calculated and will not boomerang and hit me while I am unprepared.

Why should the word evolution be removed from the classroom anyway? I believe that both theories, although I favor evolution, should be given the same preference in any classroom. I would admonish any group that decides to ban creationism from its classroom as well. The final decision as to which theory to believe should be left to the student to discuss with his family and decide. If you limit a child’s exposure to any topic, you are ensuring that whatever decision he makes will be the one you want him to make, but it is one that is not supported by different perspectives he has read. For example, if all we see about evolution is what the creationists, instead of the evolutionists and the creationists, our views that what evolutionists believe is wrong cannot be properly supported because all the facts are one-sided. Underexposure and denying growing minds and curiosity a point of view is not much better than what dictators do. If they find themselves threatened, they eliminate the threat and that is what has been done in this case.

Anyone on the Kansas school board that voted yes to removing evolution have ensured that the future of this country will never be fully informed about the way the very first of their race, humankind, came into being. By voting yes, you have taken away a learning tool from the children, decision making. With no opposing side to a fact they do not have to make a decision as to which side to believe. What message will this send to the children of the next generation when they find out that they have been starved of a different perspective? How is this decision influencing how much our children trust us? They will know that they were always not given one side of the story and how will they feel when they find out? Betrayed.

Congratulations! Here is to the school board that ruined their children’s future!
