The Future of Music

Music has been a way of expressing oneself for a long time and over the years it has evolved, like everything else. The path music has traveled has been a long one, but what lies behind the next curve in the road? What is the destiny of music, where is it heading? What will be the qualities required of a performer?

Computer technology is progressing at an incredible rate. The future of the performers will certainly depend on this technology. Computers have already become a familiar sight at recording studios, where ritzy sound effects are added to the song. The pitch of the sound can be adjusted, with innovations such as MIDI, and other software products. The technological brilliance of today may have paved the way for the music of tomorrow. Soon performers will need to make use of the power of technology to be competitive in the market. Musicians already rely heavily on synthesizers, and electronic keyboards, and in the coming years many more technological innovations are sure to be added to the music world. Such innovation will change the performers’ world too.

The world is changing faster than it ever has before. These advances are changing the world of music too. Performers have transformed rapidly in the past decade to keep up with the constantly changing styles of music. With these advances, we are witnessing a migration of musicians, as well audiences, from old opera houses to Rock-n-Roll group concerts. This sudden change in taste clearly means that audiences prefer computer generated music rather than "regular" music.

Although there are many styles of music like Country, Rock-n-roll, Pop, Rap, etc., the style of music that will grow in popularity will be decided by the large number of teenage audience. Owing to the fact that they are the ones whom the future of the world depends on. Music popular with the teenagers today will be the music of tomorrow. I would think that musicians who read the pulse of teenagers would emerge successful.

In a very competitive world, the musicians will need marketing shrewdness, in addition to their musical prowess, to stay competitive in their field. New qualities will definitely be needed to survive. The performers will need tremendous amounts of endurance, and they will need patience, for their career to nurture, stabilize and grow. They will need the ability to keep track of every top album, and the ability to find out "what’s hot, and what’s not."

The musicians must now follow the trends of this market, a task that will continue to grow tougher forever. The computer will play in important role in the lives of almost all musicians years from now. The future of almost everything relies in the computer, and it would not surprise me if musicians relied heavily on computers to be popular and successful.
