Party like its 2000 We have barely begun 1999, but the preparation for Dec.31st of this year has already begun. "2000 Mania" has the nation no, the world in its grasp. Hotel rooms everywhere have been booked for a long time. The enthusiasm that has been raised by the new millenium is building at a rapid pace. Rising in tempo and pitch with great intensity waiting to get to the grandest finale of them all. The coming New Year has already united the world. The coming New Years eve will be a beautiful painting. A painting with several colors, but each color and stroke accentuating the other. This is the best I can describe how "2000 Mania" has taken over the world. If there were such creatures as Martians and Venusians, this would be our chance to show them our power. The power that we show them will be the power that makes humans unique, the power of culture and custom. Indeed, the power with which even the prospect of the next year has united us is unparalleled. New York is perhaps the place to be if you want to be in the middle of the celebration. The number of people present that day are going to be counted in millions. People in New York really know how to party, and if you wish to share the experience, there is no other place better to go to. In Australia, they are going to put on the most extravagant fireworks display ever. More than an hour of fireworks is being planned. Every place in the world has some sort of extravagant festival to end the millennium. Every New Years day it is quite a big honor to have the first baby born on New Years. I can only imagine what the first baby of the millennium will be treated like. This might seem like a trivial topic to write an entire paragraph on but I believe that this baby will become a super-star (well, at least for her first year of life). My only hope is that this child does not have any siblings. All parents have heard of the term "Sibling Rivalry," if this child has a sibling this case will be intensified to its height. With all the attention showered on his/her brother/sister will drive him/her to the edge (unless, of course, he/she happens to be every parents dream child). The entire reason behind this partying is the arrival of the second millennium or the two-thousandth year since the birth of Christ. This information, though, is now suspected to be wrong. People say that the scholars that calculated the year Christ was born were off by about 4-5 years. This would mean that the "real millennium" passed sometime around 1995. Another matter is that the true "millennium" does not begin until 2001. Even the direst predictions, however, will fail to dampen peoples spirit now. Yes, one can only imagine what will happen from now until the "Big Moment," when the new millennium dawns upon us. Celebrations and fun will all be part of it but there will be no part as big as the unity it will bring. The Painting is almost finished. Date posted: January 03, 1999. What do you think about this? |
